Hello everyone
It has been three months since I assumed the Captaincy of the club and I cannot believe how quickly it has passed.
I have so far had the pleasure of sharing a round of golf with 35 different members and enjoyed every round (because of the company rather than my golf though). I am aiming to increasing this number in the coming months.
Winners so far this year
I’ve noticed that there have been 16 different winners of the medals and trophies so far this year with some tremendous scores to win from Ben Duffy (65 nett), Shaun Evans (64 nett) and an immense score of nett 54 from Paul Stackhouse with John and Andy Palin in the Anniversary cup.
Well done to everyone who has won so far this year.
Club championship
I can’t pass the opportunity to single out and say a massive CONGRATULATIONS to Mr Jack Craven for winning the Club Championships on the 6th/7th July this year. Jack topped the field with an excellent 146 for the two days.
Congratulations are also due to Josh Duxbury who won the shield for the lowest nett score over the two days (136) as well as a special mention for the Lady Captain (Abby Baumber) who participated in the competition and came a creditable 13th
Captains Away weekend
Unfortunately, a severe head infection meant that I had to miss my Captains away weekend this year at Telford Golf and Spa Resort on 14th/15th July. However, Tom Peters (Vice Captain) stepped in and brilliantly led the weekend and everyone seemed to have an great time.. Well done to all the prize winners especially to the overall winner, Mr Dennis Campbell. The generosity of the attendees contributed a staggering £561.50 to the Captain’s Charity (the Alzheimers’ Society) through their ‘mis-demeaners’ during the event.
Captains Charity - The Alzheimers’ Society
Through your very generous support at relevant events and the Captains’ Treasure Chest raffles, we have amassed just over £2,300 so far for the Charity and is a fantastic running total in a short time. Thank you again for your continued support for, what I believe is a very worthy cause.
What’s Coming up?
I am hoping to arrange a number of events during the rest of the year including :
Quiz night – a team challenge with the resident question masters Phil and Nigel
“50 Shades of Grey” – an presentation by Professor Gill Baynes– a bit more about that nearer the time
Captains Charity Day - 15th September
Sponsored Zipwire challenge in Snowdonia by Mr Captain and Mr Vice Captain
4-Ball Voucher Raffles - the likes of Caldy GC, LLanymynerch GC and others
Intra section challenge - teams of 12 golfers from the Seniors’, Ladies’ and Mens’ sections to play a matchplay competition on the 1st or 15th Sept (TBA)
Best Wishes
Peter Shaw
